Present Tense - Group 1 Verbs
Group-1 verbs (stress on the stem, like γράφω “I write”) form the present tense with the endings -ω, -εις, -ει, -ουμε, -ετε, -ουν. Greek has no infinitive, so a verb is named and learned by its 1st-person-singular present form (γράφω, not “to write”).
The rule
Group-1 verbs are stressed on the stem (e.g. γράφω, “I write”). The present-tense endings are -ω, -εις, -ει, -ουμε, -ετε, -ουν: γράφω, γράφεις, γράφει, γράφουμε, γράφετε, γράφουν. Greek has no infinitive, so a verb is named and looked up by its 1st-person-singular present form.
