Present Tense - Group 2 Verbs

Group-2 verbs (stress on the ending, like αγαπώ “I love”) are contracted: they take the endings -ώ, -άς, -ά, -άμε, -άτε, -ούν. Recognising whether a verb is Group 1 or Group 2 tells you which set of present-tense endings to use.

The rule

Group-2 verbs are stressed on the ending (contracted), e.g. αγαπώ (“I love”). The present-tense endings are -ώ, -άς, -ά, -άμε, -άτε, -ούν: αγαπώ, αγαπάς, αγαπά, αγαπάμε, αγαπάτε, αγαπούν. Spotting whether a verb is Group 1 or Group 2 tells you which ending set applies.
